You can save money by booking your flight on specific days of the week at specific times. And make money if you get bumped off your flight. But what about actually enjoying your flight? It all comes down to your personal preference — and your seat number.

Here to help you pick the perfect place to sit on your next flight are New York-based American Airlines flight attendant Stella Connolly and CBS News Travel Editor Peter Greenberg.

If you want MORE LEGROOM…

Depending on the type of aircraft, there are coach seats that are actually better than some business class seats, "The Travel Detective," Peter Greenberg says. You can save a ton of money by knowing about these secret seats.

  • On a 757 aircraft:

"It's not the exit row, and it's not the bulkhead seat," Peter says. While most people claim these are the best seats, the expert says to go for seat 10A or 10F. Why?

"Did you notice there's no 9A and 9F?" Peter asks. That's right — for the same price as any other coach seat, you can relax in seat 10A or seat 10F with no one sitting in front of you!

  • On a 747 aircraft:

747 planes are quite large, but there are still secret coach seats, according to the travel expert.

They're all the way in the back of the plane, in a dreaded middle seat… BUT, notice that there's no window seat next to you!

If you sit in seat 51B or seat 51J, you'll have a ton of space to the left or right of you.

If you want a SMOOTH RIDE…

The best seat in the house is the front of the cabin, according to flight attendant Stella Connolly. It puts significant distance between yourself and the loud engines and you won't feel as many bumps as you would if you were over the wing. Also, an added bonus is that you will get your snack and food first!

If you are looking to SLEEP on the plane…

Get a window seat on the left side in the middle section. Those seats are often off-center so it provides a better spot to lay your head. The middle of an aircraft also ensures you won't be bothered by bathroom lines or noisy galleys.

If you want QUIET or WARMTH…

Choose an aisle seat; window seats are often several decibels louder and colder than aisle seats.
