Pro racing driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. wasn't ready to say goodbye to the track after his retirement, so he started sportscasting—and found his purpose.
"When I retired from driving, I didn't want to stop going to the track. I wanted a purpose. When I'm there, I need a purpose—so the broadcast came to me at a perfect time," says Dale.
"I had no experience as a broadcaster, no experience doing live TV. So, talk about nerves and anxiety going on a live television show. Even though I was at a racetrack and talking about things I knew really well, that was a great uncomfortable place to push myself into," he explains.
Dale has been busy off-screen, too! He recently published a children's book, Buster’s Trip to Victory Lane—another post-retirement project—based off of his own experiences of overcoming lack of confidence and anxiety on the track.
