"Fast Foodies" co-hosts Justin Sutherland and Jeremy Ford went head-to-head to create a "fast" food snack that you can make in a matter of minutes. Here, "Iron Chef" winner Justin Sutherland shares his quick and easy Jalapeño Pickle Roll Hot Dog recipe, while "Top Chef" winner Jeremy Ford cooked up Crispy Fish Tacos with Sriracha Mayo and Spicy Coleslaw

"In Minnesota, we have this thing that we call Minnesota sushi. It is generally ham or sometimes corned beef. They spread it with cream cheese and wrap it around a pickle. It is a staple at pretty much all family gatherings and holidays. I'm kicking it up a notch, [doing that] around a hot dog, mixing it with a jalapeño cream cheese and making what I call a jalapeño pickle roll dog." —Chef Justin

Pro Tip from Justin: If you want to use brick cream cheese, leave it out at room temperature until it's soft enough to easily spread. As for the hot dog, I like all beef with a thick casing, but use whatever kind you prefer.

The friendly competition didn't stop here! The chefs also took part in our Mystery Meal Challenge, which involved cooking with a box of surprise ingredients, three ingredients of choice and a handful of pantry items. Watch that go down here

Ingredients

  • 1 hot dog of your choice
  • 3 ounces whipped cream cheese
  • 1 tablespoon diced jalapeños (seeds removed)
  • 1 piece thickly sliced smoked ham
  • 5 slices dill pickle chips, halved
  • 1 hot dog bun
  • Mustard, optional

Yield

Serves: 1

Preparation

Sear the hot dog in a small skillet until heated all the way through. (You can also grill or boil it.)

Meanwhile, in a small bowl, mix the cream cheese and jalapeños. Lay the ham on a cutting board and spread with the cream cheese mixture. Arrange the pickle slices on top.

Top with the cooked hot dog and wrap the ham around the hot dog. Place in the bun and enjoy. Mustard optional—NO ketchup!
