Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 1 shallot, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups chicken stock
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 16-ounce bag frozen steak fries, baked or fried to golden brown
  • 2 cups mozzarella, shredded

Yield

Serves: 6 servings

Preparation

Preheat broiler.

In a high-sided skillet or medium saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons butter over medium heat. Add shallot and cook until translucent, about 4-5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes. Season with salt and pepper then add remaining butter and melt. Sprinkle the flour in the pan and whisk until fragrant and light brown, about 2-3 minutes. Whisk in stock and Worcestershire sauce, and continue whisking until there are no lumps. Let the gravy come to a bubble, whisking often, until it is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon, about 5-6 minutes.

Arrange steak fries on a small baking sheet or oven-proof tray. Pour gravy over the top of the fries and top with shredded mozzarella. Place fries under the broiler until mozzarella has melted, about 1 minute.
