While the rain and snow and cold sometimes leaves you no other option, it's a fact:
Sometimes, using the treadmill is such a bore!
But does it have to be?
MORE: The One Ab Exercise You Can Do Anytime -- Anywhere
One of our audience members asked celeb personal trainer, author and former "The Biggest Loser" host Bob Harper that very question, and here's what he had to say.
Q: "I like to exercise — I usually walk around the block and do that — but we have a lot of bad weather where I live, so I end up inside on the treadmill. But the treadmill is really boring. So what I'm looking for is some suggestions from you, to make it so that I want to go on the treadmill." — Dani Weinstein
A: "Yeah, I get it! On a treadmill, you kind of feel like a hamster on a wheel sometimes, right? I actually put a workout in my book, The Super Carb Diet, about [a treadmill workout]. Basically, I just want you to get on that treadmill and play with the incline so that every minute or so, you're bringing the incline up, so you really have to keep your mind with that you're doing. So it makes it a little bit less monotonous, and you're not just at the same speed on the same incline the whole time."
And the workout in question? Here it is!
Bob Harper's Treadmill Workout
3 minutes at 0-degree incline at 3 - 4 mph
8 minutes at 7-degree incline and increased speed of .5 mph
2 minutes at 10-degree incline and same speed
2 minutes at 0-degree incline at starting speed
Rest 2 minutes
Repeat
Bob added that while he once told people not to watch TV or listen to music while on the treadmill, he now admits, "Crazy, right?! I wanted — past tense — for you to be really dialed in. But if you just need to watch an episode of 'Billions' or whatever, to get through it, just do it!"
Netflix it is, Bob!
