When it comes to picking a hostess gift this Thanksgiving, yes, it’s the thought that counts -- but on the other hand, there are no-nos.
"The first thing you don’t want to do," Daphne Oz explains, "is a bring a gift that is going to require a hostess to do work -- especially around the holidays."

Don’t panic, though! For every don’t, Daphne has a do!
DON’T: BRING FLOWERS WITHOUT A VASE
You don’t want your host or hostess scrambling for a vase when you arrive (they have enough on their plate!).
DO: BRING FLOWERS IN A VASE WITH PLASTIC WRAP
Do the presentation work for them (and get rid of one of your spare vases while you’re at it).
Simply top the vase with plastic wrap to make the arranging easier (and to avoid water spillage on your ride to the party!).
Finally, dress the vase up a bit with a piece of burlap!

DON’T: BRING A GIFT THAT REQUIRES OVEN OR STOVE SPACE
Even the most put-together host or hostess runs into time management issues on Thanksgiving!
So unless they’ve asked you to bring a certain dish ahead of time, skip any food-related gift that will take up stove or oven space!
DO: BRING THEM SOMETHING TO EAT THE MORNING AFTER
Who wants to do MORE cooking the morning after Thanksgiving? Not the host or hostess, that’s for sure!
So, think ahead for them by bringing a basket of homemade scones or muffins (store-bought is okay, too!). After all, they probably don’t want leftovers for breakfast.
"They’re going to remember you for this gift!" Daphne assures.

DON’T: BRING A GIFT THAT CLASHES WITH THEIR MENU
You may have a speciality -- but if it doesn’t go well with your host or hostess’ carefully planned spread, skip it!
DO: BRING ALCOHOL
Daphne suggests bringing one bottle of red and one bottle of white (which is especially useful if the host runs out of one or the other). Wrap them in a cute dish towel or a simple ribbon!
"Alcohol goes with everything," Daphne says!
Want to go the extra mile? You can also give a cocktail mix kit!
BONUS: MAKE A GIFT/CARE BASKET
There’s no better way to thank a host or hostess than to gift them with a little TLC!
For starters, Daphne likes to throw Vitamin D, Manuka honey lozenges, chocolate and a candle in her care package.
Now THAT'S thoughtful!
