Hanging plants can open up even the smallest space and make any room feel more like home. But what if you don't want to drill a bunch of holes in your walls or ceiling? You don't have to with these clever hacks from "Plant Doctor" and author of Wild Interiors: Beautiful plants in beautiful spaces, Hilton Carter.
1. Magnetic Hooks
Magnetic hooks can hold anywhere from 25 to 100 pounds, according to Hilton. "I happen to have some metal beams in my home and I didn't want to drill extra holes in spots that I didn't need to," he says. If you have metal beams in your ceiling, magnetic hooks work perfectly to hold hanging planters.
2. Tension Rods
For spots where you can't attach a magnet, you can use tension rods, Hilton says. They're easy to install in compact spaces like windows or skylights, and they don't require any drilling or leave holes.
BONUS TIP
Hilton says he has a "natural security system" in place in his apartment. He keeps a bunch of cacti on his windowsill, so if someone tries to break in, they'll get a sharp surprise! HA!
